Celebrating Bosnia Herzegovina Culture and Heritage

Our Life, Our Transition
Bosnian War People Preserving History, Language and Culture in East Midlands
2016 marks 21 years since the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It also marks 21 years since the genocide in Srebrenica when, in the worst episode of mass murder within Europe since World War II, more than 8,000 Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) boys and men were executed by Bosnian Serb forces. One third of the country’s population were internally and externally displaced in a process known as ‘ethnic cleansing’ and several hundred thousand were forced to flee their homes. Some of these people made a new home here in Derby.
Last year, the Derby Bosnia-Herzegovina Community Association began a Heritage Lottery funded project to record and interpret how Bosnian people integrated into life in the United Kingdom, and overcame the difficulties and barriers they faced. The project resulted in a film, a book and the exhibition here.  The objects, crafts and costumes displayed  were collected through the project and represent Bosnia and Herzegovina heritage.
‘The idea is for this to be used as learning material, teaching younger generations about managing daily life without the knowledge of language, learning to integrate, picking up pieces of their life together; stories of success and failure, preserving culture, tradition and language.’ Nedzad Salkic, Project Officer.
We are very pleased to host this exhibition will be on show until Sunday 15 January 2017.

You, my friend Tito, no one is allowed to touch!
The main reason for this lonely writing, and still writing by the woman, even from the Diaspora, is not the demand of the troubled politicians from our neighboring Croatia, to abolish the title "Marshal Tito Square" in Zagreb in front of the National Theater, but the same proposition to abolish the name of the main and most famous Sarajevo street: Marshal Tito Street in the capital of the Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo. ...
